阿布達比，阿拉伯聯合大公國首都，阿拉伯世界重要的文化都市。古根漢美術館第一座亞洲分館預定地（2010年落成）。即將成為世界九大文化都市之一。
第十七屆阿布達比國際書展獲得世界最大書展機構法蘭克福書展的贊助，去年十月在法蘭克福簽署合同，受到一千萬歐元以上的資金贊助與書展專業技術的移植（Know-how-Transfer）。此項合作的目的在於：透過法蘭克福書展的經驗移植，使阿布達比書展成為阿拉伯世界與世界各國出版交流最重要的文化平台。
阿布達比國際書展期許：「我們希望使阿布達比成為阿拉伯世界的出版產業中心。」
法蘭克福書展的贊助內容包括：一千萬歐元挹注在書籍翻譯計畫，一年將有一千種的阿拉伯語書籍外譯為其他語言，以及世界各國重要書籍翻譯引介翻譯至阿拉伯世界。此外，另有兩百萬歐元的預算，於阿布達比書展期間舉行國際文學獎的頒發。
阿布達比書展創立於1987年，剛開始規模極小，並非每年舉行，直到1995年才改為一年一度。第十七屆阿布達比國際書展將於今起（3/31）至四月七日舉行。
