Junior, I just got the Pen and I am getting familiar with it. I will write in Chinese this weekend. Follow me to 跳票? A lot of people including you see the development in Taiwan from Taiwan's viewpoint. Actually I read all 台灣鄉土文學論戰 players articles to prepare myself to deal with TIers and left wing students. I also read most famous mainland political aritices from 1960 to 1980. The big difference between us and people in Taiwan is we had first hand personal experience with TIers, left wing students, PRC underground people freely in US. Nobody was afraid of nobody. The ground was flat, all you could count on was our own brain and strength. We made friends with different groups and we listened different opinions into our hearts and digested them sincerely. The solution for Taiwan and China has been in our heart for quite long time. We believe Ma has similar idea but how to approach it is art. We just don't know how free he can do and how flexible he can be. I also wonder is he really smart enough for that. To make his term smooth and bring up economy is in the store and it is no big deal. How to bring Taiwan into new era with PRC and US pulling from both ends is the real challenge. US is not as a friend as we want to belive and PRC is not that an enemy as we want to believe either.

I just read some articles on Ma and Chen SB, they are so off the point. Sigh. I have to write my side of opinion in Chinese. Just name few things I am practicing my Chinese typing on:

1. Some people totally don't get why Taiwanese and TI are what they are. Chiang and Ma proved what we thought they are is correct. Taiwanese hates to be put down openly or subconsciously, they don't want to or they can't express it clearly. You have to go to their corner to listen to them. This was and is waht Chiang JK, Ma, and I did. You can beat TI to death by theory but you can never win their heart. Taiwanese didn't have glory and they didn't have heros in their history and tradition. Then they want to be your biggest nightmare and they know they can do that. That's their subconscience. It's undertandable rebelling mentality. The solution is we have to convince PRC to let Taiwan to be Independent first but still keep Taiwan in our Chinese big family. The longer we accept their way of thinking and support it as a natural brother, the more solid and fast they will be back to our family. It's like how to work on you rebelling son just coming out of jail. Sorry, this is closest comparason I can think of. I can only write it better in Chinese.

2. People say Chen SB can't do anything is so wrong. He can manage to get himself killed like a hero to shock Taiwan and postpone the transition. That's what he can do and he has that kind of rascal mentality but I just don't know how brave he is. When he cancelled his Yu-San trip, my buddy joked saying 'Ah Biean chickened out last minute.' That's why American is around Taiwan to calm down any possibility. That's why Ma has to calm down every side now. Ma will let Chen go free but DPP wants Chen SB to be their hero. Chen SB is Ma's walking ATM. Do we agree on that?

Back to learn Chinese input. Sigh.

To stubburn Jack,

Can you write in Chinese for "Chungkauren"? I cannot figure it out from the sound since I almost forgot the Chinese pronouciation. Working too hard and too long on writing the code.

Sorry,

No, not Taiwanian. Put your glass on, it is Taiwanlan. Taiwanian sounds like Shanhanian would call you in their accent. Yes, I am decent Taiwanlan and Chungkauren. What idea I have on China and Chinese is from my parents since we were little. We were poor in a little two room cottage. I heard Chinese history (may not be academically correct, so what?) and Chinese dreams from them. I also learned how to speak my own hometown's dialog to ask for the direction to find my old home. They worried their old hometown people couldn't understand my Taiwanlan accent in case I did fight my way back through communists. It is not brain washing, sonny, it's dream passing from one generation to the next generation. It is like your Taiwanlan's dream passing. It is same how you will pass it (even it is wrong in my view) to your next generation. We are all same on that front. I accept your mistakes because I respect your parents' wishes on you even I don't agree, so you accetp mine. Nobody tries to change nobody will make our world much more beautiful. Be honestly with you, I know what is correct and I did spend a lot of time in Stanford's Hoover library to dig out all answers I need to have on our history. I made my own decision to choose my parents' side if it is not too far off. Why should I take stranger's side to make my parents upset if it dosesn't hurt anyone? Your daddy Jack is too smart and too tough for anyone to wash his brain. None of my military educators could even claim they could tame me. They all tried and gave up. I escaped in front of their faces for them to catch me and I ran away from home and school until they promised not to hit me. I was the toughest one, nobody even could keep me quite for brain washing me. I choosed what I want to believe. :-) Remember I told you I am not Han. I have chest hair, beards, and skinny bow legs. My ancesters rode horses coming down from the North and they decided where they want to settle. You Han people is so narrow minded and moving slow, you spend so much time to fight against each other and try to change each other. We are not. We just hide among you laughing and have good time. I have same wild spirit. We are the long leg horse running fast on all terrans. You are Taiwan water cow, slow and stubborn in the cozy and warm water. We meet in Taiwan. Is it wonderful? My little TI followers used to hear me telling stories about why they are thinking the way they are and they had good time. Now you too, hmmm? How about why you don't want to believe you are Chungkuoren part first? Ooopse, too late, got go.

Not to scare you but I am pretty expensive. My rate is $500/hour but I give very reasonable estimate on the project duration.

You almost got me, Junior. I was going to call your clients to ask them if they know you and try to get a description of a Taiwanese doing business with them. There is no phone number on both sites. You are good. Okay, it's enough fun for the week. I am out of the town this weekend. Have a great one. Don't forget take your first wife to celebrate Mother day with kids. You can skip the second wife who discriminates you. Ha ha, "fast chicken delivering system", you are not writing yourself out, right? You are funny.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Okay, I am in but first you have to put your site online here that I can contact you. Hopefully you can put a better photo of yourself there. I am a typical "feeling" kind of Taiwanese, I will depend on my feeling when I look at your photo first. Not to scare you but I am pretty expensive. My rate is $500/hour but I give very reasonable estimate on the project duration. So overall, you will feel worth it. I doubt you are "it's busy". You are almost as "fooling around" as I am. You do shouting match with so many people here, it is almost a full time job for you now. You remind me of my best friend "Ah Tsai (rich)". He passed away too early (cancer). He was messed up and funny just like you. I miss him.

I am working on computing the short delivery logistics system to delivery chicken to restaurant. If you have a good system, I would like to buy the algorithm from you. I talked with UPS (UPS uses 3 Billion dollars for logistics), but their system is not fitted into our system.
So, I have a very interesting project for you if you really mean that you are good. Not play around thing. It is busy.
I can pay you a good chunk of money.
Question is whether you can deliver the solution.
I mean it. I used microsoft earth map... etc.

Interesting?

Beat the dead horse one more time on why I am not 夏蟲. To be on the other side of Job Application, when we have meeting to review final applicants who have compatible backgrounds on the technical or job related fields. The most important question we ask ourself is "Is this guy/girl going to stay more than 3 years if we invest on him?" How we find out that? Not by what they tell you. We look what elect courses they took. If they took History or Social conscience related courses, not just grade beefing up courses then we have confidence this is the one to hire. Social conscience course is obvious to every one. Why History? If Engineer likes history means he is not hoping around for small $ difference, he/sh knows the great leader is not money can buy, he/she has longer perspective, and she/he is smart to understand long term things.

Taiwaner, (by the way only Japanese uses Taiwaner, we use Taiwanese). In case you are still following Daddy Jack around to this thread. The History Simulation idea is the tip for you to make some bucks if you are really computer geek like you claimed you are. It is just simple decison tree corresponding to the history time frame. Every node is the key event. The input is the fact but output is the result which can be your subjective estimate and this is the place players can tweek or simulate. The logic of the node is the history background and reasoning. Use your brain whatever the size it is for something good, please don't say silly things to offend people for me. I start wondering may be you are not a TI or Taiwanese at all. What you said just make TI or Taiwanese looks so bad. I feel embrassed when you got into discussing your mom's sex life with some stranger on the other thread. Let's just do business for a change.

Good point but some modification of the idea. I am reposting my response to someone who called me 夏蟲.
-----------------------------------------
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I believe you say 讀歷史的人不多 means people study 歷史 full time is not many. I agree. These people study 歷史 in a "dead" way so it is good we don't have too many people studying it full time. These full time historians usually memorize details and dig out more truth. It is still important in a way too. But there are a much bigger population study 歷史 in a very vivid and different way. They study it for fun and they try to figure out lessons from it. For example, I worked with a Jewish computer engineer. His hobby was studying Roman's history. We shared office for 6 years. We computer geeks spent a lot of time baby sitting system building things like what I do now. So we usually read big volumes to pass time and history usually is the easy and top choice. He only read the 6-volume "Rome: Rasie and Fail" for the whole time. He didn't study like these pure 歷史 scholars do. He learned the whole Roman history very well after reading it 3 times. Then he replaced different Emperors with different characters to different time frame to see what history could be evolved to. He wrote a program for it, he called it Rome Simulation. We had good time to play with it. The best simulated Emperors would make Rome dominating the whole world til 1995 when we were playing it. I copied that idea but replaced it with famous Chinese's Provincial traits for these Chinese leaders. If major leaders such as Mao were not typical Hunan people but he had typical Beijing peronality and Chiang had typical SanDong personality. What we got today? My simulated result was we never had culture revolution, we didn't have civil war, we beated Japanese's pants off together. We would be number one Power today. That's the interesting part of history. Juniors, there are a lot of people in this world read history for their own fun, learned, and move on with benefit of history.

My daughter got interested in Chinese and French histories. She majored in Computer too so she had too much time tied down to system like her daddy but she did take Tang history in school so she was more professional than me. She replaced just three Tang's bad emperor's characteristic with one good French emperor's characteristic. The history would be totally different and Tang would last 400 more years united way, and Tang would pass a much higher civilization to us.

In short, juniors, same old advise, climb out your Taiwanese well. Learn some other trade or language, then turn around to read our Chinese or Taiwanese history with a different perspective. I bet you it would be more interesting and you can learn some good lessons from it. Don't just memorize history and show off how much and how correct details you know. It is "read book till you drop and you read the dead part of the book". It is wasting your time. It is worse than don't read it at all because you get lost and get your head too big to walk straight. Sorry, just can't help when I saw I thought that was I had in mind first.
