yes, Backe was great tonight.
it's a shame the 'Stros wasted his effort. you cannot win a game w/o any run.

the Astros entered the play-off last year and they were in world series this year. they may be doing better next year (though with a few players heading toward retirement).

"At least, a sweep can let us have a peaceful mind
earlier."

haha, i know the feeling. i had my heart broken several times already. this year, the bad feeling only lasted for less than 24 hours! am getting good at it.

Not judged by the result. Backe did a brilliant job.

Why not. The White Sox very well deserves the title.
My congratulations go to the Sox and its fans.

At least, a sweep can let us have a peaceful mind
earlier. There is another season to come, anyway.

Garner had used Bagwell in the 7th inning, with 2 outs, no on.
and then he can't have Backe back for the next inning.
sigh...

in retrospect, about the games:
1. yeah, everything is not on you side when you're losing.
2. it's also harder to make a "proper" move when you're falling behind since you may not have the room for mistake.

hahhhh... it's over and it's a sweep!
i don't like 4-0 series.

it turned out be be an unlikely pitchers' duel,
the 4th sarting pitchers in the rotaion.

i was hoping that Garner would pinch-hit Bagwell vs. Jenks in the bottom 9th.

are you being too defensive?

To JT:

I total agreed with JT's point, Biggio should stand up and could be a hero at 9 inn but he failed. A four ball is really meanless to the team and you couldn't ask Taveras for this as he is too young.

Dear bad sword

It's not necessary to defence his "liberal" position, if any.
I myself are good at that; it's all way too easy to pretend
to be a liberal, but as I said -- I don't give a damn here;
not that I don't care the unjust fact that an average MLB
player's salary can easily support more than 200 inner city
teacher's yearly salary, both in Houston and Chicago, but
that I don't care his position, and what I protest is his
smart mouth that intended to dodge his own discrepancies.

Whatever.

You are just so nice to let him go, but to me he still owns
us, Astros fans and Houstonian, an apology. Professor!

Play ball!! I don't want to miss the first pitch. Wish

"fairness"???
what the h*ll is Bud Selig thinking about?
the home team can't have home-field advantage!?

he amazes me as usual as he comes up with some un-baseball -esque thinking again.

can we get rid of him? how about Bush Junior for MLB commish? we could solve 2 problems at one shot.

so long as the ump was doing the same to the other team and other pitchers, he's good. and they are playing on the NL soil. plus, the pitcher does not thrive under the ump's mercy.

btw, i am not sure if Taveras was able to bunt The Duke's pitch the way you expected. also, the player is only allowed 2 bunt-foul chances per at-bat. and i wouldn't have bunted Biggio either (for a different reason). though he really didn't play well for his last at bat.

you'll have to see it by your own eyes to know how good The Duke can be and how nasty his pitch can go. His (ERA) number doesn't do him justice. remember, he struck out 2 good batters to end the inning?

bunting a runner from 1st base to 2nd is easy. from 3rd to home is riskier. and it might turn out to be a SHORT CUT to get the guy on 3rd base out.

What kind of professor are you?

If you are a liberal, or at least pretend to be one, you
should not watch any game as such at the first place,
and you should condemn the existence of MLB, NFL,
NBA...and so on. Anyhow, you may as well stick with
your "idea" and talking about the "fundamental problem
of America"; I don't give a damn. The bottom line is,
you'd better not goad a bad-mooded Astros fan like

You own Astros fans and Houstonians an apology, then

Actually what I meant is not that there are no black, yellow, brown or red Astro fans. What I meant is that these people are not as well-to-do as white folks, so they cannot afford the tickets to enter the stadium. This is the fundamental problem of America.

The black people are genuinely angry at Bush administration. The recent Millions Men March in D.C. brought out unprecedented number of participants, but this news was largely ignored by the media. So people like Neville are using every opportunity to express their feelings. Neville must also feel it is a farce to sing "God bless America" in the middle of a ball game. So he invented a new way to sing it. He sang it beautifully.

Any way, enough about this subject. I agree with the blog master. It is more fun to concentrate on the ball game.

To Mr Chang:

>We all know why Neville sang like this. He was crying for the
>people in New Orleans. He was crying for non-White Americans. My hat off for
>Neville. A courageous man.

Good call.

>Except for
>players, do you see any Astros fan who is black or yellow
>or red?

I wonder if it is true that the the Astros or the Rangers hold
much fewer Black or Asian players, compared with other Major League teams?

I ever read a very funny short story “Life in a Texas
Whorehouse” by Charles Bukowski, it described how he, a
White American, was treated brutally as Outsider in Texas
when he hit into town. I began to understand the “tough’
home advantage here in Texas a little bit. Sure, it's only
fiction, might be far from reality.

Still, baseball is the beauty. As a real outsider of the US, I’d rather enjoy the game without the racial ideology considered for some brief moments, and besides, they did mourn for Rosa Parks during the stretch time in Minute Maid Park, didn’t they?

We are Fans Nation here(sounds like a campaign slogan), no reason, do you agree, to be ashamed to be A’s or B’s or C’s or any team’s fan, by any reason that is not baseball.

Ouch...... Watching baseball is full of heart breaking moments.
It's been so true ever since I was 7 or so. Yet some short
glorious moments and joy mercifully flow around our shattered
hearts, but never really pay back the pains we suffered. "How
could all this happen?" asked a fan like me. Well, it's meant to
happen; it's baseball. It's their moment to mend their
87-year-old broken heart, yet another dose to have them
stoned in the park, said the wise to the fool. But we always
have faith, haven't we? And that's what makes lives go on.
Must we die, it is mercy to let us die away from home and
spare our heart. Let's see.

To Shi-Kuo Chang,
Do you see many blacks in Superdome when the SuperBow
(not Katrina) hits up New Orleans, a city populated with
60% blacks? Do some research, thing is not that easy, and
for your information, Houston is one of a few major American
cities with relatively less race problems. If you just want to be
cynical and open your smart mouth, here is one:

Listen to two “black” fans spoke after the Astros' disappointing loss.

I believe the Astros belong to the people of Houston and everyone supporting them. I'm “a yellow,” but my only reason for not being there in the ballpark is that I am a “diaspora.”

Your question may be well intended, but it may turn the ballpark into a platform for political discussion while making the impression that Astros are “white men’s team,” which may not reflect the reality.
